Understanding Pests

The subtropical climate supports consistent pest activity throughout the year. Warm temperatures, seasonal rainfall and dense residential development create favourable conditions for insects and rodents to establish themselves in and around homes.

Unlike cooler parts of Australia, pest populations in the Golf Coast do not fully retreat during winter. Activity may slow, but breeding cycles continue in sheltered areas such as roof voids, subfloors, wall cavities and landscaped gardens.

Understanding local pest behaviour is critical to implementing effective, long-term control.

Common Household Pests in the GC

German Cockroaches – Rapidly breeding indoor infestations in kitchens and bathrooms.

American Cockroaches – Larger species found in subfloors and drainage systems.

Warning Signs of PEST Activity 

Early identification prevents minor issues from escalating into established infestations. If activity is visible, the infestation is often already established.

  • Droppings in cupboards, roof voids or garage areas

  • Scratching sounds in walls or ceilings

  • Live insects appearing during daylight hours

  • Unusual odours in enclosed spaces

  • Nesting material in roof spaces or garden areas
